Our Philosophy
At Burringbar Community Preschool
- We view every child as unique, capable, a decision maker and an active constructor of their own world.
- All children have a right to be respected, able to make their own choices, have the right to quality education, care, and to feel safe and secure.
- We value families and caregivers, acknowledging them as their child/ren’s best and first teachers.
- We believe in having a welcoming, trusting, culturally sensitive environment where all families are respected and entitled to share goals, make decisions, form daily routines and have an input into programming and planning.
- We believe in developing a holistic approach to our practices by engaging in critical reflections, to change our practices, make informed decisions, understand our own biases and look at situations through the perspectives of the children, caregivers, stakeholders, local community and beyond.
- We believe it is important to treat each child and family individually and to respect the different interests, cultures and spiritual beliefs within the family.
- We believe in embracing every child and family’s diversity and view differences as a learning opportunity for other children to explore what makes us all unique.
- We believe that knowledge is a powerful tool that should always be shared in order to build expertise, productivity and innovative ways of providing lifelong learning to our children and the community.
- We recognise that our community is a valuable resource in which we embrace to extend on the children’s learning and connections.
- We believe in nurturing family relationships through respectful engagements and positive interactions with other families, educators, the wider community and support organisations.
- We acknowledge that we play an important role in providing the support to children and families when transitioning from the preschool to big school.
- We believe in creating environments that are safe for children to explore who they are, and challenges them to take risks in their play and interactions with others and their surroundings.
- We acknowledge the Bundjalung people as the Traditional Owners of our local land and acknowledge the important role of our indigenous culture throughout history and within our multicultural modern society, which is woven into our daily practices.
- We view children as active participants to their own learning that help to guide and evolve the program.
- We feel with the seriousness of the environmental issues of today, as educators, it is essential we consistently provide opportunities for our future generation and their families to build upon their connection to the natural world in order to promote the need for caring and nurturing our environment.
- We believe in providing richly resourced, vibrant environments for learners to be all they can possibly be, and this has everything to do with connection to the natural world.
